BRIDGEWATER, Va. — First-year Maggie McSwain (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) totaled a match-high 10 kills as the Washington and Lee volleyball team defeated Ferrum, 3-0, on Saturday in a neutral-site contest at Bridgewater.
The Generals (13-4, 3-2 ODAC) notched a .351 hitting percentage for the match, recording 32 kills on 74 swings with only six errors. The Panthers (3-11, 0-5 ODAC) hit -.084 with 19 kills and 27 errors on 95 total attempts. W&L was never really challenged in the contest, winning the sets, 25-10, 25-12 and 25-6.
McSwain hit .500 to record her 10 kills on 20 swings. First-year defensive specialist Caroline Gard (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) had a match-high 14 digs. Junior outside hitter Leah Green (Longwood, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) registered six kills on a .357 hitting percentage with four digs.
Junior middle blocker Courtney Berry (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) and sophomore middle blocker Katy Blain (West Palm Beach, Fla./Benjamin School) each had four kills. Junior setter Riley Haralson (Austin, Texas/Westlake) added 21 assists, six digs and three blocks.
First-year outside hitter Molly Patterson led Ferrum with four kills and senior middle blocker Layura Henley had 14 digs and two kills.
The Generals return to action on Wednesday, when they host Randolph-Macon on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
