W&L Volleyball falls to Johns Hopkins, 3-0

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — The Washington and Lee volleyball team was held to a -.045 hitting percentage in a 3-0 loss to Johns Hopkins on Saturday at the UMW Classic. 

The first set of the match was close, with the Blue Jays (6-0) pulling out the win, 25-20, but then JHU used the momentum to cruise in the second, 25-12, and the third, 25-11, to win the match. 

W&L had 20 kills on 110 attempts with 25 errors in the contest, while Johns Hopkins registered 34 kills on 113 attempts with 16 errors (.159 hitting percentage). 

Junior outside hitter Brynne Gould (Boone, N.C./Watauga) led the Generals (8-2) with six kills and 14 digs. In one set of action, junior outside hitter Leah Green (Longwood, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) totaled two kills and five digs. 

First-year defensive specialist Caroline Gard (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) notched 12 digs, while senior setter Anna Soroka (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) had 11 assists and six digs. 

Junior outside hitter Simone Bliss led JHU with 11 kills and eight digs, and senior outside hitter Louisa Kishton tallied 10 kills and 16 digs. 

The Blue and White plays Virginia Wesleyan later on Saturday in a non-conference match.
