Women's Soccer runs win streak to six in 5-1 win over N.C. Wesleyan

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Washington and Lee women's soccer team kept rolling with a 5-1 win over N.C. Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon in its final non-conference game of the regular season.

First-year midfielder Grace Wielechowski (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) and sophomore forward Madeleine Becker (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) scored the game's first two goals in the 30th and 44th minutes, respectively, to give the Generals a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Battling Bishops pulled back to within one goal when junior forward Cydney Nichols scored in the 56th minute off an assist from senior forward Sarah Cook.

But the Generals responded by scoring the game's last three goals to secure the win. First-year forward Sophia Roche' (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) scored the team's third and fourth goals, while senior forward Kelsey Anderson (Alexandria, Va./Episcopal) added the final W&L tally in the 80th minute.

Roche' and Wielechowski finished the game with five shots each, with Wielechowski adding an assist on Roche's second goal. Anderson also logged an assist in the game, and junior midfielder Erin Hoeh (Chesterland, Ohio/West Geauga) tallied an assist and one shot in the game.

Cook led the Battling Bishops' offense with two shots and one on goal. Nichols finished the game with one shot and six other Battling Bishop players also shot once.

Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Coombs (Boca Raton, Fla./Saint Andrews School) (7-0-1) earned the win for the Generals and made five saves in 90 minutes of action. N.C. Wesleyan junior keeper Alicia Jacobs (1-4) suffered the loss for the Battling Bishops after making seven saves in 75:38 of game time. First-year keeper Anna Yeakey played the remainder of the game and allowed one goal.

For the game, the Generals outshot the Battling Bishops, 19-9, and earned 17 corner kicks. The Generals have outscored their opponents 17-1 over their last three games.

W&L will step into ODAC play for the remainder of the regular season, and will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Lynchburg at 12:00 pm.
