LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's soccer team fought to a scoreless draw on Saturday against Denison to win the 2019 W&L Invitational, after the second lightning delay of the afternoon caused the referees to call the game in the 79th minute.

The Generals (1-0-1) finished the W&L Invitational as the only unbeaten team, while the draw put the Big Red's record at 0-1-1 for the weekend.

Despite no goals being scored in the game, it was a tale of two halves. The Big Red controlled the ball for much of the first half, possessing for 56-percent of the opening frame, and held a 10-3 shot advantage as well.

However, the Generals fought back in the second half, getting off five shots and allowing just one over the final 33:28 of play. When the game was called, both teams were at an even 50-percent possession for the contest.

The Generals' top scoring chance came in the 73rd minute when junior midfielder Elle Prillaman (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) played a ball past two defenders to first-year forward Sophia Roche' (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) inside the 18-yard box on the right side. Roche' fired a one-touch rocket on goal, but Denison sophomore goalkeeper Patil Tcholakian was there for the save.

Junior midfielder Erin Hoeh (Chesterland, Ohio/West Geauga) paced the W&L offense with a pair of shots in the contest, while Roche', Prillaman and sophomore forward Emily Leding (Little Rock, Ark./Pulaski Academy) all had one shot on goal.

For Denison, junior defender Kelly O'Neill finished the game with a team-high three shots and put one attempt on goal.

Tcholakian (0-1-1) made three saves in the 78:28 of game time, while Generals' sophomore goalkeeper Grace Coombs (Boca Raton, Fla./Saint Andrews School) logged two saves.

Denison held an 11-8 advantage in shots, but the Generals earned seven corner kicks to just three from the Big Red, including a 4-1 edge in the second half.

The Generals will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Mary Washington for a 12:30 pm game to open the UMW Classic.
