MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The 13th-ranked Washington and Lee women's golf team finished in fourth-place out of 12 teams at the Montgomery Country Club Women's Intercollegiate hosted by Huntingdon College on Saturday and Sunday.
Unranked Centre College won the event with a two-day score of 294-306—600 (+24). Methodist, ranked 11th, finished second with a 304-299—603 (+27), and fourth-ranked Rhodes was third with a 305-299—604 (+28). The Generals carded a +38 score of 302-312—614 to place 13 strokes ahead of 12th-ranked Oglethorpe.
Bailey Plourde of Centre finished as the individual medalist, carding a -5 score of 69-70—139.
Washington and Lee was led by first-year Megan Kanaby (Chapel Hill, N.C. / Cardinal Gibbons), who placed third overall out of 71 golfers with a +3 score of 71-76—147.
Junior Laurie Jones (Atlanta, Ga. / Blessed Trinity) finished in a tie for 12th with a +9 score of 74-79—153, while junior Griffin Foultz (San Antonio, Texas / St. Mary's Hall) tied for 17th with a 76-81—157 (+13).
Sophomore Savannah Johnson (Owens Cross Roads, Ala. / Huntsville) tied for 26th with an 82-77—159 (+15) and junior Beth Ann Townsend (Greenville, S.C. / Travelers Rest) placed in a tie for 29th with a +17 score of 81-80—161.
First-year Cassie Robinson (Emporia, Va. / Greensville County) played as an individual and tied for 32nd overall with an 83-80—163.
Washington and Lee will return to the links on October 7-8 when it plays in the Tartan Invitational hosted by Carnegie Mellon at the Laurel Valley Golf Club in Westmoreland, Pa.
