ROANOKE, Va. – The Washington and Lee riding team opened its 2019-20 season with a fifth-place finish at the Hollins IHSA Invitational on Saturday.
The Generals took top honors in six of the eight Open and Intermediate classes to lead off the day, leading to senior Charlotte Radcliffe (Lancaster, Pa. / J.P. McCaskey) and sophomore Sam Johnson (Skillman, N.J. / Stuart Country Day) earning High Point Rider and Reserve High Point Rider honors, respectively.
Radcliffe finished first in her section in the intermediate flat and intermediate fences, while Johnson placed first in her section in the open fences and open flat. First-year Jillian Rosenwasser (New York, N.Y. / Convent of the Sacred Heart) also finished first in her section in the open fences and claimed third in the open flat.
First-year Zoe Cass (Old Greenwich, Conn. / Greenwich) added a first-place showing in her section of the intermediate flat, while sophomore Caroline Cox (Atlanta, Ga. / The New School Atlanta) was second in her section of the novice flat.
The Generals will return to action next Saturday at the Bridgewater/JMU IHSA Invitational.
