W&L Men's Cross Country Claims 15th at Louisville Classic

LOUISVILLE, KY. — The Washington and Lee men's cross country team placed 15th out of 40 teams at the NCAA Pre-Nationals Meet (Louisville Classic) on Saturday at Sawyer State Park.

Top-ranked North Central took first with 85 points, ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins placed second (116 points) and 14th-ranked Otterbein was third (127 points). The Generals totaled 417 points.

Junior Freddie Marx (Greensboro, N.C./Walter Hines Page) paced W&L with a 64th-place finish out of 276 runners on the 8k course. He registered a time of 25:39.30. Junior Daniel Cope (Dallas, Texas/St. Mark's School) was 66th in 25:40.70.

Senior Austin Kinne (Bolingbrook, Ill./Neuqua Valley) placed 75th (25:44.00), first-year Connor Verrett (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) was 100th in 26:09.50 and sophomore Ethan Bernstein (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) claimed 112th with a time of 26:14.10.

The Blue and White registered an average time of 25:54.00 out of its five scorers, and were the top team from the ODAC, besting Lynchburg and Roanoke, at the meet.  

Senior Tyler Nault of Wis.-La Crosse was the top individual in 24:19.20.

W&L next competes at the Inter-Regional Rumble hosted by Oberlin and the Gettysburg Invitational both on October 19.
