SALEM, Va. — The Washington and Lee men's cross country team had two runners in the Top 10, as it claimed the team title out of 18 schools at the Roanoke Invitational/ODAC Preview on Saturday at Greenhill Park.
The Generals totaled 50 points to finish first, with Lynchburg in second with 56 points and Concord taking third (104 points).
Junior Daniel Cope (Dallas, Texas/St. Mark's School) was the Blue and White's top runner on the 8k course. He finished sixth out of 159 competitors with a time of 25:44.10. First-year Connor Verrett (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) was right on his heels in seventh (25:46.90).
Junior Freddie Marx (Greensboro, N.C./Walter Hines Page) was 13th in 26:01.30, senior Austin Kinne (Bolingbrook, Ill./Neuqua Valley) placed 14th (26:04.70) and sophomore Drew Woodfolk (Kingwood, Texas/St. John's School) finished 21st with a time of 26:42.50.
Harrison Toney, an unattached runner, won the individual title with a time 24:59.20.
The Generals return to action on September 28 at the Hornet Harrier/Commonwealth Challenge.
