W&L coasts to first-place finish in the ODAC Relays

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's swimming team claimed first place out of 10 teams at the annual ODAC Relays hosted on Saturday at the W&L Natatorium.

Highlights from the meet:

-The Generals won eight of the nine relays on the day to tally 412.5 team points. Roanoke followed in second with 282.5 points and Randolph-Macon took third with 196. Rounding out the top-five teams were Lynchburg (187.5) and Hampden-Sydney (120.5), while Randolph (82), Bridgewater (50), Virginia Wesleyan (23), Greensboro (18) and Ferrum (17) completed the field of teams.

-W&L was led by juniors Patrick Sullivan (Pawleys Island, S.C./Waccamaw) and Danny Lynch (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School), who both swam on five winning relays, including the 3x50 back (1:13.99) and the 200 medley relay (1:36.70) which they both competed on.

-Seniors Jared Nickodem (Jackson, Wis./Cedarburg Senior) and Evan Kramer (Taylors, S.C./Eastside), junior Conner Van Vooren (Morrisville, N.C./Cary Christian School) and first-year Todd Echols (Winston Salem, N.C./RJ Reynolds) also had strong days in the water, each competing on three winning relays.

First-place finishes:

-Nickodem, Echols, Lynch – 3x50 fly relay (1:10.89)
-Lynch, Sullivan, Logan Robinson – 3x50 back relay (1:13.99)
-Sullivan, Van Vooren, E. Kramer, Ben Brown – 400 free relay (3:13.21)
-Brown, Lynch, Echols – 3x100 IM relay (2:45.58)
-Fitz Rawls, Van Vooren, E. Kramer, Sullivan – 500 free relay (4:19.32)
-Lynch, Steve Warren, Nickodem, Sullivan – 200 medley relay (1:36.70)
-Lynch, Nickodem, Robinson, Landon Potter – 100 dolphin kick relay (45.65)
-Sullivan, Van Vooren, E. Kramer, Echols – 200 free relay (1:27.10)

The Generals will return to action next Saturday, when they host Washington (Md.) and Centre in a 1:00 pm tri-meet.
