Fifth-ranked Generals down Emory & Henry, 7-1

LEXINGTON, Va. – The No. 5 Washington and Lee men's soccer team scored three goals in the first half and four goals in the second to down Emory & Henry, 7-1, in ODAC action on Saturday afternoon.

The win propels the Generals' overall record to 8-1-2, with a 2-0 mark in the ODAC. The loss drops the Wasps to 6-4-2 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

First-year midfielder Samuel Bass (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) finished the game with five points, as he scored the first and third Generals' goals in the fifth and 44th minutes, respectively. He also assisted on first-year forward Patrick Rooney's (Littleton, Colo./Mullen) first-career goal in the 29th minute.

In the second half, first-year John Peterson (Towson, Md./Loyola Blakefield) scored in the 53rd and 59th minutes, his second and third goals of the season, on assists from first-year defender Charley Colby (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) and senior defender Oliver Dolberg (Clovis, Calif./Floyd B. Buchanan).

Junior midfielder Nick St. Pierre (Roanoke, Va./Northside) scored off an assist from senior defender Griffin Scott (Dallas, Texas/Dallas Jesuit) in the 57th minute. Sophomore midfielder Alexy Alin-Hvidsten (Chatham, N.J./Pingry School) capped the scoring with his first goal of the season with just under three seconds remaining in the game.

The Wasps' lone score of the contest came in the 60th minute, when first-year midfielder Casey Widdifield headed in a free kick taken by first-year defender Josh Felton.

Bass paced the W&L offense for the day with a game-high six shots and put five on goal, while Peterson came in next with four attempts and three on goal. In all, 21 different Generals recorded at least one shot, with 10 different players taking multiple shots.

Widdifield and Helton took one shot each for the Wasps and put both of their attempts on target.

Sophomore Michael Nyc (Kildeer, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) (8-1-2) earned the win as the Generals' goalkeeper, making one save with no goals allowed over the first 56:02. First-years Rye McMillen (Fairfax, Va./The Heights School) and Garrett Erickson (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Ramstein (Germany)) combined to finish out the game, allowing one goal over the final 33:58.

E&H first-year keeper Spencer Scott played all 90 minutes in goal for the Wasps and made 16 saves.

For the game, the Generals finished with a 39-2 shot advantage, including a 21-1 edge in the second half. W&L also earned 11 corner kicks in the game and allowed just one.

The Generals will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Randolph for a 6:00 pm ODAC matchup.
