BLACKSBURG, Va. – The sixth-ranked Washington and Lee men's golf team sent a group of individuals to play as a "B" team at the VSGA Intercollegiate held at the Blacksburg Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
W&L's "B" squad finished tied for fifth out of the 17 teams competing in the event with a +20 score of 300-296—596. The Generals moved up two spots from their team placing following Monday's round. Christopher Newport and Lynchburg tied for the team title, with both teams carding a +4 score of 580.
Averett's Elias Haavisto claimed the individual crown after shooting a two-day score of 67-69—136 (-8).
Washington and Lee was led by the first-year tandem of Evan Owan (Germantown, Md. / Gonzaga) and Caleb Choe (Virginia Beach, Va. / Cape Henry Collegiate), who tied for 13th overall out of 93 golfers at +2. Owan shot a 72-74—146 and Choe carded a 71-75—146.
First-year Owen Malcolm (Atlanta, Ga. / Holy Innocents') rounded out the W&L players in the field with an 81-75—156 (+12) that tied for 42nd overall.
Washington and Lee returns to action on October 28-29 when it takes part in the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial hosted by Guilford at the Sedgefield-Dye Course in Greensboro, N.C.
