W&L Men's Golf Finishes Tied for 10th at the Gordin Collegiate Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The sixth-ranked Washington and Lee men's golf team moved up three spots on Tuesday, finishing in a tie for 10th out of 15 teams at the Gordin Collegiate Classic hosted by Ohio Wesleyan at the Columbus Country Club.

The Generals finished with a two-day score of 294-296-292—882 (+18), while second-ranked Illinois Wesleyan claimed the team title with a -24 score of 285-277-278—840.  The tournament featured a stiff field that was comprised of 12 teams ranked in the Division III Top 25.

Individually, Illinois Wesleyan's Rob Wuethrich came from behind on the final day to take medalist honors by one stroke over day one leader Drew Mathers of Huntingdon.  Wuethrich carded a 70-68-68—206 (-10) to claim the crown.

Senior Brian Peccie (Norfolk, Va. / Norfolk Academy) finished as the top General in the competition, placing in a tie for 16th out of 75 golfers with a -2 score of 73-70-71—214.

Sophomore Austin Sharrett (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Latin) shot up the leaderboard on Tuesday, tying for the low round of the day with a 68 (-4).  He completed the tournament with a +6 score of 77-77-68—222 to tie for 41st overall.

Senior Sean Puleo (Albany, N.Y. / Albany Academy) tied for 52nd with a 72-75-78—225 (+9), while first-year Pierce Robinson (Kings Mountain, N.C. / Thomas Jefferson Classical) was one stroke back, tied for 59th with a 74-76-76—226 (+10).  Just one stroke behind Robinson was senior Robert Quinilty (Cypress, Texas / Houston Christian), who tied for 61st with a +11 score of 75-75-77—227.

Washington and Lee returns to action on October 13-14 when a group of individuals will compete in the VSGA Intercollegiate held at the Blacksburg Country Club in Christiansburg, Va.
