FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its athletes of the week for the week ending on October 13, and Washington and Lee senior Patrick Sullivan (Pawleys Island, S.C./Waccamaw) and sophomore Caroline Baber (Richmond, Va./Collegiate School) were named the Swimmers of the Week.
Sullivan had a strong week to open the 2019-20 season, winning three individual events, while helping a total of six relays to wins as well. He won the 100 (47.22), 200 (1:44.80) and 500 free (5:00.00) races in a 146.5-115.5 dual win at Mary Washington on Friday, while helping the 400 free relay (3:11.27) to a win as well.
On Saturday, Sullivan swam on five winning relays at the ODAC Relays to help W&L to a first-place finish out of 10 teams. He swam on the winning 3x50 back relay (1:13.99), 400 free relay (3:13.21), 500 free relay (4:19.32), 200 medley relay (1:36.70) and the 200 free relay (1:27.10).
Baber's opening week of competition included winning one individual race, placing second on another and helping five relays to wins. She opened the season with a win in the 200 individual medley (2:12.00) in a 146-120 dual win at Mary Washington on Friday, adding a second-place finish in the 50 free (25.29) and helping the 400 free relay to a runner-up finish as well (3:37.89).
On Saturday, Baber led the team to a first-place finish by helping five relays to wins. Those events included the 3x50 fly relay (1:19.05), 3x50 breast relay (1:35.61), 400 free relay (3:39.62), 3x100 IM relay (3:05.79) and the 200 free relay (1:39.50).
Both swimming teams will be back in action on Saturday when they host Centre and Washington (Md.) in a 1:00 pm tri-meet.
