FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its athletes of the week for the week ending on September 22, and Washington and Lee junior outside hitter Brynne Gould (Boone, N.C./Watauga) and first-year forward Sophia Roche' (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) earned the Volleyball and Women's Soccer Player of the Week awards, respectively.
Gould recorded 53 kills over three matches to lead the W&L volleyball team to a 3-0 mark. She notched a .358 hitting percentage for the week, while averaging 5.30 kills per set. Gould also had 32 digs (3.20 digs per set) and four blocks.
Gould totaled at least 14 kills in all three matches, registering 19 kills and 13 digs against Shenandoah, 14 kills and seven digs versus Mt. Aloysius and 20 kills and 12 digs against William Peace. She currently leads the ODAC this year in kills (232) and kills per set (4.30). Her .270 hitting percentage this season is also ninth best in the league.
Roche' helped the Generals to three wins in three non-conference games last week with a team-best four goals and eight points. She scored one goal in the team's 7-0 win over Averett on Wednesday and added another goal in a 5-0 win at Meredith on Saturday. Roche' capped her week with her first career multi-goal game in a 5-1 win at N.C. Wesleyan on Sunday.
Roche' leads the Generals in goals (5) and points (10) this season. She is also tied for third in the ODAC in goals and has scored at least one goal in four consecutive games.
The W&L volleyball team (12-2) returns to play on Tuesday with a 7:00 pm road game at Guilford. Women's soccer (7-0-1) will be back in action on Saturday with its first ODAC game of the season, a 12:00 pm start at home against Lynchburg.
