W&L's Fredericks Set to Compete at Zone Finals

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Washington and Lee riding team had one rider qualify for the Zone Finals after completing competition at Regionals on Sunday hosted by the University of Virginia.

The Top Two riders from each class move onto Zones, and sophomore Lauren Fredericks (Los Gatos, Calif. / Los Gatos) won the walk-trot. She will compete at the Zone Finals on April 7 in Greensboro, N.C.

Sophomore Charlie Radcliffe (Lancaster, Pa. / J.P. McCaskey) finished third in the novice equitation over fences, while sophomore Dani Powers (McKenney, Va. / Dinwiddie) placed fourth in the walk-trot at Regionals. Senior Jane Chiavelli (Ashland, Mass. / St. Mark's School) claimed sixth in the open equitation over fences and sophomore Hannah Witherell (Shirley, Mass. / Francis W. Parker Charter Essential) took seventh in the walk-trot-canter.

Chiavelli also tied for third with Alex Indeglia of UVA in the Cacchione Cup individual high point rider. Overall, the Generals finished sixth at the IHSA Regionals.

The W&L riding team returns to action on March 30 when it competes in the ODAC Championship at Sweet Briar.
