PERRY, N.Y. — The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) released its 2017 Scholar All-American team recently, and Washington and Lee senior midfielder Joe Perrella (Larkspur, Calif./Redwood) was honored.
The USILA recognized 78 senior players from Division III for achieving a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better and who are also an All-American, member of the North-South Team and/or for being all-conference. Student-athletes are expected to have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to themselves, their institution and to college lacrosse on and off the field.
Perrella is coming off his best season in a General uniform in 2017. He started all 17 games and was the team's fourth-leading scorer with a career-high 35 points on 28 goals and seven assists. A Second Team All-ODAC selection this spring and a Third Team All-ODAC honoree in 2016, he completed his career with 94 points on 73 goals and 21 assists.
W&L had three USILA Scholar All-Americans a year ago and now has 13 over the last five seasons. All told, 38 Generals have garnered the award since 1990.
Washington and Lee completed the 2017 season with a 10-7 overall record. The Generals earned a share of the ODAC regular-season title and were the top seed in the ODAC Tournament, before falling to Hampden-Sydney in the semifinals.
