GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 15th-ranked Washington and Lee men's golf team finished second out of 11 teams at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship held at the Bryan Park Champions Course in Greensboro, N.C.
Due to concerns over impending weather, the teams played 36 holes on Monday to finish the tournament a day early. The Generals posted a three-round score of 296-296-304—896 (+32) to finish 33 strokes behind Guilford, which completed the tournament with a team score of one under par. GC posted a two-day, three-round score of 289-292-282—863 (-1) to win for the second straight year. Virginia Wesleyan was third (897, +33) and Hampden-Sydney finished fourth (898, +34).
Guilford's Addison Manring was the individual champion, shooting a 73-68-71—212 (-4) to win by two strokes.
W&L sophomore Sean Puleo (Albany, N.Y. / Albany Academy) placed fourth overall out of the 54 golfers in the event with a +1 score of 74-71-72—217.
Senior Luke Farley (Durham, N.C. / Trinity School) placed in a tie for 10th overall with a 74-70-80—224 (+8) and sophomore Brian Peccie (Norfolk, Va. / Norfolk Academy) finished in a tie for 12th with a 72-77-76—225 (+9).
Sophomore Robert Quinilty (Cypress, Texas / Houston Christian) finished in a tie for 19th with a 76-78-76—230 (+14) and first-year Evans Copeland (West Point, Ga. / Brookstone School) placed 36th with an 82-78-83—243 (+27).
Washington and Lee will now wait to see if it receives an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship which will be held on May 15-18 at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro.
