GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 14th-ranked and second-seeded Washington and Lee men's golf team fell to 19th-ranked and fourth-seeded Berry College by a score of 2-1-2 in the championship match of the Division III Match Play Invitational held at the Grandover Resort West Course on Monday.
The Generals' lone winner on Monday was senior Conley Hurst (Little Rock, Ark. / Episcopal), who posted a 4&3 victory over 94th-ranked Eddy Black. First-years Austin Harrill (Hickory, N.C. / Hickory) and Robert Quinilty (Cypress, Texas / Houston Christian) both finished all square in their matches against Press Clark and 68th-ranked Joel Maire, respectively. Junior Luke Farley (Durham, N.C. / Trinity School) fell 2&1 to Cole Ackerman, while first-year Brian Peccie (Norfolk, Va. / Norfolk Academy) was knocked off by sixth-ranked Ryan Elmore, 7&6.
Senior Todd Alan McDonald (Little Rock, Ark. / Little Rock Christian) and junior Hayden Combs (Kennett, Mo. / Memphis University School) both played individual matches on Monday as well. Peter Trask of Berry defeated McDonald, 1Up, and Combs dropped his match to Ty Palmer of Guilford, 3&1.
Washington and Lee will return to action on April 23-25 as it takes part in the ODAC Championship held at the Wintergreen Resort in Nellysford, Va.
