LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Lindy's Sports College Football Preview Magazine has released its 2017 Division III Preseason All-America teams and Washington and Lee rising senior linebacker Max Garrett (Fairfield, Conn. / Choate Rosemary Hall) was among those recognized.
Garrett was one of six linebackers recognized, as the publication listed him among the three Second Team Preseason All-Americans for the 2017 season. He was also one of two ODAC players recognized, joining Randolph-Macon junior offensive lineman Greg Castle, who also garnered second team laurels.
A two-time First Team All-ODAC and First Team All-State honoree, Garrett also received Second Team All-South Region accolades in 2016 when he led the ODAC with 109 total tackles, one interception and three pass breakups. He posted double-digit tackle totals in eight of the 10 games, including a season-best 15 stops against Johns Hopkins and again versus Guilford.
Over his first three seasons, Garrett has notched 267 tackles across 31 games played. He also claims 6.5 tackles for a loss, seven pass breakups and two interceptions.
Garrett has also excelled in the classroom, twice earning CoSIDA Academic All-District accolades and receiving the ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award last fall.
Washington and Lee opens the 2017 season on Friday, September 1 when it hosts Johns Hopkins at 7:00 pm. The Blue Jays are ranked fifth in Lindy's Preseason Top 25 Ranking.
